MUMBAI: NRI diamond trader Sanjeev Jaswal (37), who was discharged from hospital on Friday, seems to recognize his wife and daughter, but can’t hold conversations with them. Jaswal was hit on the head with a baseball bat in a road rage incident at BKC on June 6.
“Sometimes he shows signs of recognition on seeing us, but after a while, that memory is gone,” said Girish, Jaswal’s nephew.

The family has been trying to get the victim into a conversation, but he trails off, Girish added.
Jaswal sold diamonds on a cruise liner and was based at Miami, while his wife, Anita, and daughter Simone (9) stayed at Vakola with the victim’s mother. “Though shattered at the turn of events, Anita is being strong. She can’t afford to break down,” said Girish.
Simone hasn’t been told about the incident. “She might get disturbed on finding out what happened,” said a relative.
Doctors said Jaswal’s recovery would take about a month or two as the fracture in his skull has to heal and the blood clot disappear. Another relative said, “Jaswal is not able to hear with his left ear. Doctors have said the ear drum is not visible right now. If the problem persists, they might consider a surgery.”
